Pressure Washing Tips

If you are a home or business owner and you are thinking about doing some pressure washing around your home or business, there are a few important things that you should consider and understand before you attempt anything of this nature.

Pressure Washing is a common service that many home, property or business owners may decide to attempt themselves and not engage a professional power washing services company or contractor. However if they are unprepared, then this will more than likely turn into a big mistake because it will take up too much of your valuable time, time probably better spent on doing something else. Also because the results that you are likely to achieve will be far less superior than if you had engaged a company who specialize in doing this type of thing day in and day out every day of the year.

The biggest issue that could result is damaging your property, house or building. Damage that could be permanent without expensive replacement costs.

If you are up for the challenge then let me point out the basics of what you need to know before you undertake such a task, this is from somebody who has been in the pressure cleaning or pressure washing industry depending on what part of the world you are from for nearly 15 years.

Identify the stains that you are trying to remove (sodium hydrochloride is great for mold, mildew and algae. De-greasers should be used for oil and grease stains on driveways)Identify the substrate that you are attempting to clean (some substrates such as concrete will tolerate much higher pressure, whereas bricks and sandstone are much more delicate and can only withstand low pressure)Make sure you have the proper equipment and attachments for the job (many pressure washers that home owners buy are not suitable for the job of cleaning large scale areas such as a home or driveway. Also if you have an industrial strength pressure washer, ensure you have the right nozzles and lances to make the job easier)Realize that pressurized water alone is not sufficient and you will need to find appropriate cleaning agents to complete the job to the highest level (as with any cleaning procedure, water alone can only do so much. You need cleaning chemicals or agents to complete the task)Wear appropriate P.P.E Personal Protective Equipment (Ear Muffs, Water Proof Clothing, Hat, Gloves, Boots. Wear a respiratory when working with chemicals)Ensure that waste water is not going to escape into storm water drains and pollute the environment (it is against the law in most areas to have waste water from pressure washing run into drains and hefty fines apply)Ensure plants and gardens will not suffer from over spray of chemicals or from flooding (an inexperienced contractor could easily kill plants or small shrubs or trees during a pressure washing undertaking. Ensure that your garden is protected)

Getting Rid of Mold and Mildew in Your Home

Mildew is the term given to various mold and fungi accumulation. It usually grows on a flat and moist surface. It is usually found in bathtubs, showers, attic, basement, curtains, leather couches, window sills, and many more. It is a bad sign if you see growing molds in your home. It signifies that there is imbalance. Mildew may damage the surface where it is growing through decomposition and staining. It can also be harmful to the health due to the spores it builds. Do not withstand the fact that it is not pleasing to look at and can give a bad smell in the house. There are lots of reasons why you should eliminate mold and mildew in your house. Removing the mold and mildew should be your first step followed by repairing the damage done, and finally, keeping your home free from mold and mildew.

How to remove and control mold build up:

Mold can grow in winter and summer months. During winter, the air in the house is moist which can result to mold accumulation. On summer months, mold still grows because of the high humidity level. You should keep your home free from mold anytime of the month by doing preventive guidelines.
Clean your bathroom. Mold grows tremendously in bathrooms. One best substance to use in cleaning molds in the bathroom is the vinegar. Spray or sprinkle vinegar in areas that are more likely to accumulate molds. These areas include under your faucet, bathroom shower curtains, tile grouts in the floor, and walls near the sink. You can also mop your floor with water and vinegar.
Clean other parts of your home. Your kitchen is also another favorite spot of molds. Food leftovers, gloomy spaces in the cupboards, dirt and oil spills during and after cooking and moisture on the tile surface are all causes of molds in the kitchen. Spray your dish drier and chopping board with vinegar and anything that have contact with food. Do these regularly to prevent bacteria and mold build up.
Use air conditioner during summer when it is humid and hot outside. Humidity is one factor for growing molds. Dust mites also grow on humid season. It is said that 65% to 70% of humid is essential for a growing mold. Using air conditioner doe not only give you cool air but also prevents mold as well. Maintain a temperature of 30% to 50% to ensure that mold will not grow anywhere in your home.
During winter where it is very cold, mold may still develop. Again, maintain a temperature of 30% to 50%. You may use a dehumidifier if you have one at home.
Carpets may increase the risk of developing molds in your house because they are susceptible to dirt and moisture. It can also bring in fleas and dust mites. You can either take off your carpet to avoid these problems or clean it with baking soda regularly.

How to remove mildew:

Mold and mildew are quite the same and because of this, the method of preventing them is quite the same also.
Avoid moisture in your home. Extreme moisture can not only cause mildew, it can also damage your structure especially wood and drywall materials. To avoid too much moist in your home, fix leaking faucets or sink. Check your pipes if there are broken lines. Use air conditioners and dehumidifiers as needed. Maintain the right temperature all over the house including the basement and attic.
Remove anything that was damaged by mildew. If something has been infested by mildew, take it as a whole right away. If the damaged thing is not removed, the mildew will further develop. Be careful in removing the object to prevent you from inhaling the spores of the mildew.
Clean and dry the surfaces in the house. Ensure that every part of the house is clean most importantly the bathroom and the kitchen where moist and dirt are always present. After cleaning the whole house, dry the surfaces to avoid moisture. Ensure also that there is proper ventilation all over the house to maintain the right temperature all throughout the year.

Commercial Air Cleaning Services

Commercial air cleaning services are ultimately crucial for the health of your employees and customers. Keeping breathing air pure is important for a full list of reasons. Every building should have its indoor air quality tested every 2 years whether it is for commercial or residential use. There are several different cleaning services that can help clear the air. Commercial services range from air duct cleaning, dryer vent cleaning, and hood cleaning. Restaurants and Laundromats especially benefit from these professional services.

Every commercial building can benefit from air duct cleaning. Professional companies will clean literally every inch of your ducts to ensure maximum performance from your HVAC system. After all, the HVAC system is where all the air in your entire building is sourced from. The last thing you want is to be pumping out and breathing in dirty air. Ducts are cleaned with high positive air pressure and soft bristles that push and brush away anything that is clogging the duct. During the cleaning process negative air is used to balance the positive air. This maximizes cleaning power and prevents the particles and contaminants from entering back into the building during the actually cleaning process. Although this cleaning method does not use chemicals there are chemical treatments available.

Hood cleaning is especially important for restaurants to keep up with. Not only does hood cleaning help reduce insurance costs but it helps improve the system's performance! Technicians will check for grease in the exhaust systems and thoroughly clean out any buildup. This keeps your business safe and clean and seriously reduces the risk of fire.

Commercial dryer vent cleaning is very important for businesses like Laundromats. Keeping up with dryer vent cleaning is a maintenance service that should be done periodically in order to help improve performance of machines and reduce the risk of fire. With around 15,000 dryer fires starting a year, this is a service that cannot be ignored. Productivity of the dryers will also improve with this maintenance service. Clogged vents can make loads take much longer to dry-especially clothing items like towels or jeans.

Indoor air quality is something that should always be at its best. Not only is poor indoor air a health threat to yourself, your employees, and your customers, but keeping up with hood and dryer vent cleaning helps reduce the risk of fire. Professional cleaning companies can help improve the productivity of your appliances, improve breathing, lower energy bills, and prevent problems like mold and moisture.

Home Cleaning Service For Chores You Don't Want To Do

It can be hard to find the time in the course of your busy day to address some of the domestic concerns of owning a house. At the end of a long day of work the last thing you want to do is to come back to your place and have to clean and straighten up everything. While it can be hard to find time to do it, there is no denying the fact that it needs to be done. Fortunately, for those with busy lives who are in need of assistance there are home cleaning service professionals who are happy to come out and do the menial tasks that are so often overlooked.

Home cleaning service allows property owners to feel at ease and comfortable in their space. A clutter free and dirt free living area offers peace of mind, but on the other hand when things are messy it can be stressful. These companies are skilled at coming in while you are away at work and doing all the little chores that are so hard to schedule time for. They will scrub out bathroom walls and sinks and also wash kitchen counters and stovetops. They will sweep and mop the floors and perform deodorizing tasks. When a person gets come back everything will be washed and smell fresh. This allows a person to simply enjoy their space in the evening and not worry about trying to stay abreast of domestic needs.

The trick to finding a home cleaning service to offer this incredible assistance is that it is difficult to find someone who can be trusted to be alone in the house during the day. This is a most sacred space and when a stranger is there alone it can be disconcerting. By hiring a professional company you get the added protection of knowing that a larger organization is standing behind the trustworthiness of a person. Hiring a local person does not assure this protection.

On the other hand while a larger home cleaning Service Company is more likely to protect a person against theft or damage, they have their drawbacks as well. They are generally more expensive for the same work and they also do not always send the same people to the house every week. That means that special requests or preferences may go unheeded. With a local person you have the benefit of dealing with the same person every time and you can instruct them to your needs and wants as necessary.

Home cleaning service from a professional company or a local contractor gives peace of mind and comfort while offering a much-needed service. Each have their benefits but both will give a person the satisfaction of knowing that their house will be in order when they return.

Floor Cleaning: Tips on How to Clean and Maintain Your Floor

A beautiful floor can provide extra attraction to your house especially when it is properly maintained. Whether your floor is made of tiles, hardwood or stone, cleaning it requires proper application. If you wish to clean your own floor, follow the tips below and you will surely keep your floor look pretty for the years to come.

Vinegar Solution

If your floor requires quick maintenance use a vinegar solution. Mix a half gallon of warm water to 3 cups vinegar (the ratio will depend on the size of the area you are going to clean) and then use a mop to clean the area. If your floor looks listless and dull then you definitely need to mop it with a vinegar solution.

You can use this cleaning agent to all types of floor except marble floors. Floor experts believe that vinegar won't work on hardwood floors as well. On the other hand, some home owners find this to be untrue. If you're curious about this, the best thing for you to do is test it yourself.

Cleaning Ceramic Floors with Squeegee

Like any other types of floors, ceramic floors are functional and beautiful only when it's new. As it ages, ceramic floors will eventually look dull. Cleaning it with vinegar solution is fine but cleaning with a squeegee can be better. Squeegee is used for window cleaning, but least assured that it can also clean your floor just as fine.

To clean, mop the area first with soap mixed with warm water. After which, improvise a pole where you will attach your squeegee (this is so that you won't hurt your back in the long run). Draw the pole across the floor removing the soapy solution as this will make the floor clean. Clean the squeegee with a dry cloth after every stroke.

Candle Wax Stain and Gum Stain

To remove this kind of stain on your floor you need the following: ice cubes, a dull knife, paper towels and iron. First you need to apply cold pressure using ice cube. See to it that the wax is still wet before you apply. After which, scrape the wax using a dull knife and cover the affected area with several layers of paper towel. Lastly, run a warm iron on top of the paper towels. This will allow the candle wax to soften and seep into the towels.

On the other hand, gum that finds its way on your floor can be troublesome if not treated right. To remove gum on your floor, simply apply cold pressure using ice cube and it will eventually harden. If you're sure that it's hard enough, scrape it off using a dull knife.

As tedious as it may seem, cleaning and maintaining your floor is not that bad. If you can find the passion to do so, you may as well enjoy a beautiful and shiny floor for as long as you wanted. Learning the tips above will surely help a lot, or if not give you added information on how to maintain your floor effectively.

Cash For Clutter - Decluttering Tips That Earn You Money

What could be better than getting decluttered? Fame, a genie in a bottle, a new car? Ok, ok, that might be a little out of reach right now, but we can make money from our clutter! How nice would it be to get rid of some of your extra things that are taking up space and making your house cluttered and end up with extra money?!?

The best way to go about this is to integrate it as part of your "normal" decluttering. For instance, let's say that you are cleaning out your basement and going through all the shelves of games, books, and other items that have accumulated. Odds are that you have some items that someone will want; our goal is to make some quick money from these items. What we need to remember is that the end goal is still to be decluttered, we don't want to wait weeks or months for someone to buy our $3 book when we would gain more from donating it and getting it out of the house.

An interesting side note - if you are considering selling your home in the near future, you should really be decluttering now! On top of the fact that no one wants to come into a home that is full of clutter and think about the work that will need to be done before they move in, the value of your home (as well as the perceived) value is increased by keeping it free of clutter and organized. A study conducted in 2003 showed that at a cost of around $400 (which we can do by following the Get Rid Of Clutter program for a tiny fraction of that cost!) home owners realized a profit of $2,000 - that's a 500% profit! That is quite a good return for the time and money used, not to mention the fact that a decluttered house is much more likely to sell quickly instead of staying on the market costing you money in bills, taxes, and more.

Ok, back to the task at hand - making some money from our decluttering efforts! Keeping this in mind as we go through our decluttering can really help to focus us on getting rid of items that we might otherwise make up a reason to keep. Remember, ask yourself these questions as you go through the process of decluttering an area:

Is this item useful? If it is useful, is it used? An object that is not used is not useful.Does this item make me happy to see it? If it is hiding in the back of a closet, how happy does it really make me?Does this item bring back joyful emotions when I see it, hear it, or smell it? Again, if it is hiding in the back of a closet or shelf somewhere, how important is this to me?

If the things that we are going through do not fit into one of those three categories, then we really need to consider putting them into the clutter pile and moving on.

After deciding what it is that you want to sell, you need to develop an idea of the price that you want to sell it for - remember, the idea is to get rid of clutter AND make some extra money. Do not price items too high or you will end up holding onto them. Selling used items usually means selling them cheap. Make life easy on yourself and discount your items so that they sell fast - you will be happier in the end instead of holding out for the sale that might not happen with a higher price.

If you have trouble deciding what to charge for your item, look at the same places where you might sell to get an idea of what prices other people are charging. Go ahead and look at the list below to get an idea of where to look.

So, how can we turn the clutter into cash? We have many options! Here is a short list - each one of these could be a short article, or book chapter on its own (several of these are discussed in the book and via our training course). Some of these work better for others, sometimes it can take a little trial and error to see what works best for you. Look at the options and comments below to see what you think could make you the most money from your decluttering.

Craigslist - a great online site for selling anything and everything. Great for selling furniture and large items locally. Pro: you can sell just about anything from Craigslist and there is likely a buyer out there for it. Con: You will have to meet in person, whether at your house or at a meeting spot.Amazon - Amazon can sell your used items and takes a small fee. Pro: great for selling books and you only need to mail the item once it sells. Con: Setting up the item to sell can take a bit longer and Amazon takes a cut that is proportional to the sale price.eBay - eBay lets you set the price in its auction environment, a good place for some electronics and other niche items. Pro: Fairly easy to setup, if you have a good item you can start a bidding war and get top dollar. Con: Competition can be fierce in certain categories.Garage sale - The tried and true way to get rid of clutter in a local fashion. Pro: No need to post anything online (except for advertising your garage sale). Con: Dependent on things like weather, your neighborhood, etc.

Most people have enough clutter in their homes to make them a decent amount of money. From good condition books to extra furniture, it is not unusual for people to find that they have several hundred dollars or more or surplus items sitting around their homes not being used. Think about what you could do with that extra money! Enjoy!

How to Get Rid of Clutter on Tables and Counters to Live an Organized and Decluttered Lifestyle

Flat surfaces can be a blessing and a curse. Isn't it nice to see a cleaned off table - just think of all the things we could do; we could set the table for a big family meal, we could sit and use it for crafts, we could let children use it for their homework or drawings, there are so many possibilities! Unfortunately as soon as we have a flat surface cleared we usually start putting things back onto it. It's almost like the side table, kitchen counter, entryway table, coffee table, bathroom counter, and every other flat surface has a clutter magnet on it! There's no arguing here - keeping these surfaces clear is tough for anyone. A good way to deal with these is to go through the normal decluttering process and get to the clean surface. Once you have done that take a look at what you want and what you like on that surface. Does it have a lamp that you use? Is there a picture that you want to display? Figure out what you like the best and how many items this is - we want to limit the number to something reasonable, but we also want to be comfortable with what we choose. Once we have this figured out you will know how many things should be there. When you start to see how this can help you maintain a decluttered environment this should become second nature.

If we let some things sneak back onto a surface, don't worry too much about it. Set a time when you will go over the area and pick things up and put them back where they belong. We can't have a spotless and totally organized house one hundred percent of the time - we would go crazy even trying! The idea is to get used to regularly keeping things under control. This might mean putting your books away every night, cleaning up when you get home from work, or taking Saturday afternoon to pick up after yourself. It is certainly a give and take - you don't want to spend so much time picking up that you start hating spending the time doing it, but you don't want to wait so long that it becomes a huge project again! We want to find what works best for ourselves. It takes time and a little trial and error. After a few weeks it should be fairly evident what works best for you. If by the end of three weeks you can't seem to get a good system going on a regular schedule I suggest setting aside five or ten minutes three nights a week to pick up and clean off your surfaces. Write them down, make a checklist, or set an alarm - just make sure that you are following through and sticking to a schedule. It is like many other habits - you have to keep doing them for it to be effective, the first few weeks can be the most trying but it does become much easier after that.

Going Green When Cleaning

Some of the largest pollutants that we use as a business nearly everyday are often things that we do not even necessarily think of as pollutants, and that is the simple cleaning products we use such as hand wash soap in cloakrooms. On top of this if you work in any office then the chances are that you have commercial cleaners coming in every evening that may well be using a range of cleaning products that are anything but green.

Indeed a simple look around in your cleaners cupboard, may find a locked cabinet for storing cleaning supplies, and one of the main reasons for this is that many of the cleaning chemicals still in use today are toxic and anything but green in nature.

Yet the pressure on all companies to go green is increasing month on month, with pressure coming upon businesses from Governments and lobby groups alike.

So if you have any concerns whatsoever as to what cleaning products your cleaning company is using, then why not sit down with your cleaner and find out if they have a "Green" policy and how it affects you, or if they do not then why not work with them to look at using alternative green products in your offices.

This is a genuine concern for a lot of companies as many of the detergents in use today cause a lot of harm to the environment as often the detergents cannot be easily or cheaply removed from your waste water by your local water company.

Also having a green policy when it comes to cleaning products is something that you can use as a plus point in your company brochures.

Going green when it comes to cleaning supplies need not cost anymore than buying non-green cleaning supplies in the majority of cases, although there are some chemicals where no credible green alternative yet exists.

Widely used cleaning products that are now available in environmentally friendly versions are washroom cleaner, toilet cleaner, hand wash soap, air freshener, heavy duty cleaner, multi-surface cleaner, carpet cleaner, glass cleaner and even degreasing products. So as you can see the list of products available that are environmentally friendly cover the majority of cleaning supplies that any commercial cleaner will need to use.

If you employ your own cleaners and buy cleaning supplies in for them to use then why not make the switch over to green products and help the environment out today.

Keep the Mess in the Washing Machine With These Laundry Room Storage Tips

If you had to name the most cluttered and disorganized room in your home, you might pick the laundry room. Dirty clothes mingle with clean ones, containers of detergent and softeners sit wherever you last placed them and, if the laundry room is near the back door, you're likely to find a collection of shoes underfoot as well. Get organized with a few laundry room storage tips that will allow you to keep the mess inside the washing machine.

First, get some of that mess off the floor. That means starting with all those piles of dirty clothes. The Triple Storage Bin with Black Frame and 2.5 Inch Casters is the perfect organizer for holding your laundry while you're waiting for wash day. What makes it perfect is the fact that it provides you with three bins that provide instant sorting ability. As your family members bring in their dirty clothing, they can place each piece in the appropriate mesh and cloth bag. That will save you loads of time when laundry duty comes around because you won't have to sort it yourself. And if you need to remove the bins to go and collect laundry around the house, you'll discover that each of them is actually a removable bag. A heavy duty steel frame holds everything together, and there is even a wire frame bottom that provides you with storage space for whatever you need to keep with your laundry.

Next, you'll want to clean up the miscellaneous mess that so often finds its way into the laundry room. The Rectangular Storage Container is made of canvas with a water-resistant vinyl lining that makes it a perfect gathering place for plastic water bottles and other recyclables. You'll even want one for your kids to toss in their dirty shoes until you have time to clean them. Each of these storage containers is fitted with sturdy handles so you can haul everything outside for cleaning or to the car to take to the recycling center. You might even want to keep one on hand to contain damp laundry such as bath towels.

Another great tip to organize the laundry room is to gather all of your laundry supplies into one convenient location. The back of the washing machine is the most convenient spot to store detergent and softeners, and the Washing Machine Wire Shelf gives you the room that you need. This shelf is made of coated finish wire and it fits right onto the top back of the washing machine. It is strong enough to hold all your laundry-day supplies, and you'll find everything is close at hand when you need it. If dryer lint builds up on the wire, it's easy to brush or wipe it clean, too.

If that shelf isn't large enough to hold all your laundry supplies, you might want to put the Roll-Out Caddy between your washer and dryer. This coated wire unit has three shelves that are only nine inches wide, but that's plenty of room to hold boxes of detergent, bottles of bleach, containers of softener sheets and other items. The casters make it easy to roll in and out, so if it attracts dryer lint, it will be easy to clean. This is a rugged little unit that will last for years, and will store everything you need to do your laundry day chores.

If your ironing board stands in a corner and you constantly have to straighten it and your iron sits in the way on top of the dryer, you'll appreciate this tip. Use the back of your laundry room door to store those items. The Over the Door Iron Board Holder is a powerful organizer that hangs over the door or mounts on a wall. The iron sits in its own spot in the center of the unit, while two bottle holders flank it. The ironing board itself hangs from the bottom, out of the way and off the floor.

Another easily mounted organizer that will quickly clear space in your laundry room is the Overdoor Laundry Hanger. This durable chrome piece is small but powerful enough to hold up to ten pieces of clean laundry. Hang clean shirts or trousers on clothes hangers and then slip the hooks into the slots to get them out of the way. This hanger features a locking hinge, but you can fold it down when you're not using it. There is a felt pad on the inside of the bracket so you won't have to worry about scratching your door when you put it up.

These are just a few laundry room organizers that you'll be able to put right to work in de-cluttering your home. Inexpensive, sturdy and convenient, they will quickly right any mess that you have, and make your laundry day chores much more pleasant.

How Often Should A Carpet Be Cleaned?

Do you wait until the carpet starts to look dirty before calling a professional carpet cleaning company to perform 'restorative carpet cleaning?

Waiting for a carpet to look dirty before calling in the cleaners is what most people do but, is that leaving it too late?

When you leave a carpet so long that it looks dirty, lots of permanent damage has already occurred. You will have been walking on a carpet, with lots of trapped dirt, cutting away at the fibres, causing premature wear. This same dirt will have ground its way into the fibres and permanently changed the colour of the carpet.

Leaving the carpet to look dirty before cleaning means, your carpet has already worn down and permanently discoloured. How can you prevent this from happening?

Professional carpet cleaning is the only way to guarantee removal of deep down dirt, that causes wear and discolouration, but how often should you perform professional carpet cleaning?

If you leave carpet cleaning to once a year, you can expect the level of appearance to be as follows

(The values change depending on variables such as number of children, number of pets and frequency of vacuum maintenance.)

On average, you can expect a carpet to look 50% of what it did, when new, after just one year. By having professional carpet cleaners in, you can restore the appearance to 80% of what it was when new. Leave the carpet another year and, the carpet deteriorates to look 30% of what it looked like when new. Having your carpet professionally cleaned at the end of year 2 restores the look to 50% of what it looked like when new. At the end of year 3, the carpet falls to look 20% of what it did when new and professional cleaning of the carpet at the end of 3 years improves the look to 40% of what it did when new.

Have your carpet professionally cleaned once a year and, after 3 years you can expect it to look 40% of what it did when it was new!

Having carpet protection applied at the same time as professional carpet cleaning, improves the level of appearance significantly.

Can You Have Your Carpet Professionally Cleaned Every Month?

The level of appearance improves dramatically, if you can have your carpets professionally cleaned on a monthly basis. Have your carpet professionally cleaned once a Month and, after 3 years you can expect it to look 80% of what it did when it was new! In fact, the level of appearance only drops a small amount and, if the carpet also had carpet protector applied on a regular basis. The carpet would still look almost like new after 3 Years of use!

You now know that you should have your carpets cleaned as often as possible but, how often should your type of household have professional carpet cleaning?

Below, is a carpet cleaning maintenance plan, which is the IICRC (Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification) guide to carpet cleaning frequencies. "The Clean Trust S100 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Carpet Cleaning".

The IICRC (or The Clean Trust as they are now known) is one of the world's foremost authority and examining board for professional carpet cleaners.

When looking at the following carpet cleaning frequency guide, please consider factors such as:-

Amount of trafficSoil levelsVacuuming schedulesSpot cleaning methodsProfessional periodic cleaning frequencyRestorative professional carpet cleaning

Please note: Follow the carpet manufacturers cleaning schedule to maintain your warranty.

Carpet Cleaning Maintenance Plan

Should your household have...

Light Soiling

Vacuum once a weekSpot clean as and when requiredProfessionally clean 'tracking areas' every 12-18 MonthsRestore - Professionally clean all areas every 2 Years or as manufacturer's warranty

Normal Soiling (families with children or elderly staying at home)

Vacuum twice per weekSpot clean as and when requiredProfessionally clean 'tracking areas' every 6-12 MonthsRestore - Professionally clean all areas annually

Heavy Soil (families with pets or smokers)

Vacuum 2 - 4 times per weekSpot clean as soon as spots appearProfessionally clean tracking areas every 3 - 6 MonthsRestore - Professionally clean all areas twice a year

Extreme Conditions (large families, multiple pets etc.)

Vacuum dailySpot clean immediately spots appearProfessionally clean tracking areas every 2 - 3 MonthsRestore - Professionally clean all areas quarterly every 3 - 4 Months)

I hope this information has helped you understand the necessity for regular carpet cleaning, so that you can keep your carpet looking good for many more years to come, compared to not having carpet professionally cleaned.

Do not let your carpet look dirty before calling a professional carpet cleaner. But, do have your carpet cleaned as often as possible.Have carpet protector applied often, to extend the time your carpet keeps looking good.

It will also be convenient because they will arrive at your premises early, you will not have to wait for hours and hours for the professional cleaners to come. Alternatively, you can call your usual cleaners to do the job because they will know what kind of standards that you have. This will be more convenient for you and you can be sure that the cleaning of your windows is in the right hands.

Look for the experience of the cleaning company before you hire them. The company you choose should have at least five to ten years of experience and you can be sure that your work will be done the right way. If you hire a new company then you will face more problems than convenience. The workers will not be properly trained and will not be familiar with the different working conditions. They might have some problems with tools and techniques, which might lead to bad results. Never compromise on the company's experience because it is the last thing you want.

You can search for cleaning services online also. Here you can even see their websites and their contact details as well. This will provide you some guarantee on their work. Call their offices and ask questions. Negotiate the terms and ask questions about their working experience. Ask your friends about different companies that work in this field, they will tell you which company is good and which is not. It is always better to get first hand information from someone you know. Make sure that your chosen company has experience in both commercial buildings and residential buildings.

Residential Air Cleaning Services

Every homeowner should be aware of the state of their home's indoor air quality. Every building has many different allergens threatening the air. Dirty dryer vents and HVAC vents are just two examples of appliances that can infect a living space. Thankfully there are professional residential air cleaning services that can help with these problems. Professional cleaning services not only help keep the air healthy, but they help improve breathing, keep appliances working most efficiently, and can even help save money on energy bills. These professional services and air quality testing is suggested every 2 years.

Having your home's air ducts cleaned is one of the best maintenance services you can do. Your HVAC system is literally the source of all your breathing air. HVAC systems feed the entire home and can acquire up to 40 pounds of dust a year! That is an outrageous realization to think how much is contaminating your home just from everyday living. Professional cleaning services take advantage of negative and positive air to clean the ducts. This is a chemical free service that prevents the dust and particles from blowing back into your home when the cleaning is being done. There are also chemical cleaning treatments available. Duct cleaning is an extremely thorough service where virtually every inch of the system is cleaned. Not only does this help improve air quality but it keep the HVAC unit running its best. An efficiently working system means less energy use and lower bills.

Your dryer vent should also be cleaned! Although dryer lint should be removed by users regularly, this service is still recommended for many reasons. First off, there are generally signs that it is time to have your dryer vent cleaned. If the flapper on the vent hood won't open when the dryer is going, if the laundry is especially hot at the end of the cycle, or if clothes are taking an extra long time to dry, then you should clean the vent. This helps improve the performance of the machine, increases the dryer's lifetime, prevents mold and moisture, and prevents fires. Did you know that around 15,000 fires happen each year because of dirty dryer vents alone?

Having clean air is important to your health and can help prevent allergies and the symptoms that go along with them. Professional companies are available to help with a full range of cleaning services from duct cleaning to moisture barriers. Keeping up with air quality testing and cleaning is a smart thing for every home owner do to.

Why Office Cleaning Is a MUST

Office cleaning services do much more than simply empty the wastebaskets or wash the windows. In fact, there are several cases that have been documented which prove that regular vacuuming and cleaning of an office can significantly reduce "sick time" taken by employees and actually increase productivity. By taking these elements into account, most companies can actually offset the cost of office cleaning through their insurance provider or via their taxes, making it an essential ingredient for any successful organization.

Getting a service listing from an office cleaning company is simple. Visit their website, call their representatives, or send out an email, and within hours, you'll have everything you need to make your service decision. There are several essential tasks that you will want to have performed with each weekly cleaning. For example, keeping the restrooms sparkling is a great way to make a lasting impression on a visiting client. In fact, restrooms are considered one of the top "determining factors" in an individual's assessment of the cleanliness of a home or office. Take advantage of this perception by keeping your restrooms perfectly clean.

Increasing Efficiency

Operational efficiency is likely the most important aspect of any business's office. Clutter and dust can sap motivation, as a clean workspace is simply more inviting to an individual than a dirty one. By hiring a service to perform a weekly office cleaning, you prevent clutter from building up and eliminate much of the dust that can accumulate through normal operating hours. And, if your office is increasing its overall efficiency, won't profits increase?

Promoting Health

The health benefits to regular office cleaning are endless. From assisting those that have allergies to helping to reduce the amount of irritants in the air, the health issues that can arise from an unclean workspace can do far more than simply cost the company work hours due to illness. Instead, long-term issues can arise, resulting in lawsuits and increases in insurance premiums.

Client Perception

Perception is everything in the business world, and when your office is neat and tidy, your clients will immediately assume that your business operations are neat and tidy, as well. This is an inherent principle in corporate circles, and nothing can put distance between a company and a client quite like an unorganized workspace. By making a tiny investment in a professional office cleaning service, you are setting the stage for huge rewards in the future.

The lobby is another area that should be taken into consideration. The adage regarding the importance of first impressions rings true when you consider that the reception area is the first thing that a client will see when entering your building. Be sure to remind the cleaning service that your lobby must be spotless, and though they likely already understand, they will be sure to remind the cleaners when they visit your location. Attention to detail goes a long way in this regard.

Office cleaning firms are an important part of many corporations across the globe. With a wide variety of service offerings, organizations of all sizes can find a service that fits their needs and budget. Through careful research, the search for the right company shouldn't take long.

Outline what you need from your cleaning service from the start. This will give them the necessary information to ensure your satisfaction and inform their employees about any special considerations while they are in your office building. Be sure that special care is given to the rest rooms, any expensive equipment, and other areas of concern, and you'll have an office that sets the stage for success!

Before You Sign the Lease, Call a Mold Testing Company

When it comes to purchasing a home or renting an apartment, it is very important that you find out whether your potential home has a problem with mold. No one wants to live in a place where there is a life threatening problem with air quality. Even though you may not think it is that serious, simply inhaling spores can cause some serious respiratory problems later on. If you have children and pets that are going to be living with you, you want to make sure that you are moving into a healthy environment. Many owners, real estate agents and management companies will not give you a definite answer on whether or not mold is present. This is why you should leave the inspection and removal up to a certified mold testing company.

No one is saying you should have every home you are looking at should be tested, but any place you are very serious about should be looked at. Mold testing every home you like can be a bit expensive if you are not willing to weed out some of the homes yourself. Here are some things you should look for that can signal whether or not that home or apartment has a problem with mold.

Do you remember your mother flushing the toilets and looking at the pipes of any place she was interested in? There was a specific reason she did this even though she may have looked silly to you as a child. Pipes that are leaking are a sign of a potential mold problem. Look under the sinks, flush the toilets and take a look at the pipes in the basement. If you see any sign of leakage or moisture, this home may not be safe for you and your family.

Smell the air all throughout the home. If you smell a stale, musty or mildew odor, there may be some spore growth going on where you can't see it. Turn on the A/C. A lot of times mold will grow where there is moisture and the HVAC system is a big breeding ground. If you smell mildew, especially after running the air conditioner for a few moments, move on to the next home on your list.

Be on the lookout for cracked or peeling paint. Also be on the lookout for walls and ceilings that are discolored. These are all signs of an impending mold problem. If you see any rust or condensation, run don't walk out of that place.

Of course, if you see a place that you really want to purchase or lease and you suspect that there is a mold problem, you can always hire a reputable mold testing company to come and investigate. They will be able to tell you if the infestation is mild enough so it can be treated or if the infestation is so severe that the home is not safe for anyone. If you take the proper precautions now, you can avoid a lifetime of health conditions, enormous medical bills and loss of investment.

Intelligent Questions to Ask a Carpet Cleaner

When choosing a carpet cleaner... ask questions.

I have owned a carpet cleaning business for more than 34 years. Over the years I have learned what questions people should be asking their carpet cleaners.

All carpet cleaning companies are not created equal. There are very significant differences in methods of cleaning, knowledge and experience, quality of equipment and cleaning solutions used, attitude towards customers and pricing.

So how do you know which company uses the best cleaning method for your needs, has the knowledge and experience to eliminate any problems in your carpets, is using quality and effective equipment and cleaning solutions, who has an attitude that you are comfortable with who fits within your budget?

You ask. Understand, in any business if you ask them if they can get the job done they will all say, "yes, no problem. We are the best." This means you need to ask specific questions to know if they really are who you want in your home.

Here are some questions you should ask.

What cleaning method do you use and explain to me exactly how your system works.

Think about any situations you might have in your carpets, bad traffic areas, urine stains, odor problems or any other concern that you have and ask them...

I have (name the concern/concerns) How specifically does your method take care of my concerns? Ask to speak to the owner or manager and then ask him/her detailed questions about this. Questions include what cleaning solutions do you use? How exactly does that cleaning solution work?

What you learn from their answer is their method, their knowledge and their attitude. If they give you incomplete answers or seem hesitant to answer your questions then I would call a different company.

Are you licensed and Insured? If not call somebody else. If a company is not professional to be licensed and insured then they most likely are not a very professional company.

Tell me about your guarantee. If they do not have one call someone else. Some companies have a guarantee that says, "best cleaning ever, or it's free". Think about it, this is not quantifiable. Who is to say that it is or is not the best you have ever received. I dislike these guarantees based on marketing hype. The best guarantee is the one where if you are not satisfied that they have done everything they could reasonably do to they will reclean the areas of concern for free. If you are still not satisfied then you will not be charged for those areas.

Of course you will ask about the price. Here is some advice about pricing. Just because one company charges a lot of money does not make them good and conversely just because a company charges a lower rate does not make them less competent then their more pricey competition. I believe that a company that charges close to the middle in your areas pricing for carpet cleaning is usually a good choice. Remember that if you have situations like urine, large stains or a high number of stains you will most likely need to pay extra for those situations. Always be clear before you schedule the work how much they charge for these situations. I would be cautious about a company who did not charge extra for these kinds of situations.

In summary- Ask detailed questions about how they can take care of the concerns you have with your carpets, make sure they are licensed and insured, ask about their guarantee and choose less on price than on how comfortable on how you felt about how they answered your questions.

Use this guide and you will find a carpet cleaner who will be able to take care of the concerns you have with your carpets.

Five Tips in Finding a Good House Cleaning Service

Finding a good and trustworthy house cleaning service can sometimes be difficult. Generally, one finds a house cleaner from a friend, a friend of a friend, or someone who knows where these good services are found. Well, you get the picture. And it always seems like the first time the new cleaning service cleans, the house looks perfect. Then there are the odd occasions when the quality can go down. Here are some tips to help you find good service, which ensures that they keep doing the job you want.

Tip One: Don't just go with the first company you meet. For some reason, many people are uncomfortable interviewing service workers. It feels very personal, especially if you're meeting the actual person who may be cleaning your home or apartment. Even if you've gotten a stellar recommendation from someone you absolutely know and trust, you still need to meet and interview at least two firms or individuals. Ask how long they've been in the business, how many people they have cleaned for and how were they hired by the people they work with.

Tip Two: Get four references, and make sure you call them. This is another one of those things that we sometimes feel is too much work to do, but it really is crucial. When speaking to the person, you need to be specific in your questions, such as why would you recommend this person? This question form will force them to give you reasons. The other key question to ask is what would be the one thing that you would change about the way they clean your home? This gives the individual the opportunity to be critical without being negative. Sometimes, this is the most enlightening part of the conversation.

Tip Three: Give the firm a try. Now this may seem like a waste of time. Won't they do their very best job on this first cleaning? Yes, they should, as you can sense what their very best is. If after this first cleaning you find there are problem areas, then they're probably not the firm for you.

Tip Four: At the first cleaning, be sure to do a walk through with the service to find out what they use or recommend on different surfaces. Although most companies use similar products, it is good to let them know of special requests ahead of time. This little walk around could also tell if the person does not seem to know what to use. It can be an indicator of inexperience or lack of attention to detail.

Tip Five: Be critical. When reviewing the cleaning work, make note of anything you find unacceptable or uncertain. Again, don't be shy about giving honest feedback. Most people have little individual pet peeves regarding their house cleaning, so these need to be addressed. If the service doesn't consistently measure up, move on. A good, conscientious service will know what is important to their customers where they will make sure that those things are consistently handled.

Keep these tips in mind when hiring and you'll have a much better chance of getting a quality cleaning service.

Surviving Home Disasters, Major or Minor: Fire/Water Restoration and Other Pro Services Can Help

Damage from fires, floods, and other incidents don't have to mean your home is beyond repair. Turn to fire, water, and other restoration professionals to preserve your house and weather the storm with minimum loss and maximum peace of mind.

Your house is your biggest investment, but it's very often so much more than just an inhabitable savings account. It's also your home, the place were lives are lived and memories are made. Which is why when disaster strikes, the devastation can be doubly costly. When your property has suffered from a fire, flood, or other incident, major or minor, you need to act quickly to not only preserve the structure in terms of a financial investment but also to restore your house into a home that's safe and welcoming for you and your family.

Water Damage Restoration
Natural disaster, roof leaks, burst pipes: no matter how the water entered your home, when you're dealing with a flood, you've got a real mess on your hands. It might be easy to just throw your hands up and call your property a total loss, especially with both fire and water damage, but instead of giving up on your home, bring in a professional flood restoration company. You'll be amazed at what these experts can do to evacuate standing water, dry out absorbed moisture, and stop the damage in its tracks. You may have to replace soggy drywall and refinish your floors, but when you call for water damage restoration in time, you'll be surprised at how well this professional team can contain the damage and stop the problems from compounding with concerns like mold growth and wood rot.

Fire Damage Restoration
When you have a fire in your home, you typically end up with the double trouble of both damage from the fire itself and damage from the water used to extinguish the flames. However, even these dual concerns don't always mean the space isn't salvageable. Modern technology offers a full range of fire restoration techniques including structural drying, smoke and soot removal, and odor elimination. Fire/water restoration companies in your local area have the necessary tools and training to tackle these problems and help you minimize losses.

Additional Services
In addition to the large-scale drying and cleaning services offered by nearly all fire and water damage restoration companies, you may also find yourself in the market for specialized services such as mold removal, carpet cleaning, or tile and grout cleaning. These additional options can help you to clean away evidence of the incident from walls and floors that are in good enough shape to preserve. By revitalizing these finishes, instead of tearing them out and starting over, you're able to help keep the cost of the job down while still returning your home to a clean, beautiful condition.

For major home disasters such as extensive flooding or serious fires, you might want to ask around until you find a disaster restoration company that is also a general contractor. That way, if/when your project requires rebuilding walls, reinstalling flooring, and other major changes, you won't have to deal with juggling multiple service providers. Working with a general building contractor from the get-go who also specializes in fire and flood restoration can help make your life just a little easier during this stressful time.

Knowing All About Hot Water Pressure Washers

Two types of hot water pressure washer machines are currently available: ordinary hot water machines and tri-mode machines. Before going into details of these machines, it would be worthwhile to have a look into some of their basic aspects.

Basic Features
A hot water pressure cleaner can provide an output temperature of up to 210°F. For this, these machines should contain heating elements. Normally, hot pressure cleaning machines can provide two types of output: hot water and cold water, in other words, heated output and non-heated output.

The difference between a hot pressure cleaner machine and an ordinary pressure washer lies only on its output temperature. There are machines that do not contain heating elements. These are called cold water pressure washing equipment. There are machines that can provide higher output temperatures. These are known as steam pressure washing machines, which can provide output temperatures of up to 330°F.

There is not much difference between an ordinary pressure cleaner and a tri-mod pressure washing equipment in other aspects. For example, there is no constraint on output pressure level or flow rate. Any kind of power source can be used.

Now, it is time move into different categories of hot water pressure washing equipment.

Ordinary Hot Water Machines:
These are one of the widely used cleaning machines. These are used for cleaning outdoor locations such as parks, stadiums, roads, pavement, and parking lots. These are also used as hard surface cleaners of indoor areas, such as floors and walls. Normally, ordinary hot water pressure washers are classified into two types based on the power source: machines powered by electricity and machines powered by fossil fuels.

Electricity-Powered Machines:
Pressure washing machines can have one of two types of sources for generating output pressure: an electric motor or a combustion engine. Machines that use electric motors are known as electric pressure washers, and those that use combustion engines are known as gas pressure washing machines. Heating elements can also be powered by electricity or fossil fuel. The machines that have electricity to power heating elements are known as electric-powered pressure washing equipment.

Normally, these machines are all electric pressure washers; that is, they use electricity to generate both output temperature and output pressure. These machines work smoothly and silently. Moreover, these machines do not emit any combustion byproducts.

Machines Powered by Fossil Fuels:
In such machines, the heating elements are powered by fossil fuel, such as kerosene, diesel, or gas. Such heating elements are used both in electric pressure washers and in gas pressure washers. In fact, such machines are more common than all electric machines.

Tri-Mode Machines:
This is another category of hot water pressure washer machines. These machines can provide three kinds of output temperature: cold water, hot water, and steam. Cleaning workers can change the output temperature based on the nature of the surface.

These are costlier than ordinary pressure washing equipment but suitable for cleaning companies and big factories that have varieties of surfaces to clean. The main advantage of tri-mode equipment is that they can be used to clean almost all kinds of hard surfaces. These machines definitely enhance cleaning efficiency and speed up the cleaning process.

A Great Cleaning Service Begins With Great People

Wouldn't you enjoy having your home or business polished by expertly trained and hard working people who take pride in what they do?

In the wonderful day and age we all live in, this is entirely possible.

Everyone seems to live a demanding lifestyle. Our days are chock full of running errands, chauffeuring the kids to ball games or doing a multitude of other things. Plus, most of us work outside the home during the daylight hours. Needless to say, daily necessities do not allow for extra precious time to clean our homes or businesses.

That's really not a good thing.

Many people are simply so busy they have no choice but to hire a cleaning service.

When you reach this point, the very first thing you must look for is the kind of people your intended cleaning service hires. As mentioned above, the "must haves" are fully qualified, hard working, and proud professionals.

Next, when you interview them, consider whether you can trust this company. That's very important too. You can always ask your friends or neighbors if they have used them and if they felt totally comfortable with having them in your home. Some people elect to have them tidy up while they are at their place of employment so this quality is of utmost importance. Be sure to ask the company manager if background checks are regularly performed on their employees.

For peace of mind, ask if they are fully bonded and licensed and if they offer any sort of guarantee on their work.

Another nice amenity of a cleaning service is that work can be regularly scheduled to meet your schedule, not theirs. Most services will attend to your needs either weekly, bi-weekly or even monthly - whatever suits you. They will even clean your home or business one time only if you're moving in or out of your home.

Another vital question to ask is whether you will have to sign a contract? Most companies do not require this, but it's better to ask up front.

Remember how much a tidy house once made you feel so good inside, so inspired? You felt as if you could soar to greater heights. You could actually rush to the door when the bell rings, swing it wide open and tell whoever is standing there, "Oh, do come in (even it's just the UPS man)." You can experience that phenomenal feeling once more when you allow these busy little bees transform your home into a palace - a clean palace.

It's been said a home is like a castle to a man, (or woman). If that's the case, then why on earth would you ever do the dirty work yourself? Kings and queens do not do that! You are the king or queen of your home, so neither should you.

Get Carpet Ink Stains Out of the Way

Imagine for a moment that you are working on some documents and your pen gets broken, spilling a considerable amount of ink on your shirt. This is one of those things that can really make a person go off-the-rails. The most frustrating stain would be an ink stain on light-colored pants, t-shirt, shirt or carpet. I am certain that many carpet-owners have experienced how difficult it is to get rid of an ink stain that ended up on their carpet. Indeed, if you let an ink stain stay for a while, it will become more difficult to clean and could damage the fiber of your carpet.

Though it is not easy to clean ink off a light-colored carpet, it is not impossible. Actually, to get the best out of your carpet cleaning efforts, you need some helpful tips on how to go about it. There are several steps to follow if you must get rid of an ink stain on your carpet.

First, you must ensure that the stain is treated immediately it gets on the carpet. This is the first treatment you should give your carpet. This remedial action prevents the stain from becoming more difficult to clean. When you let the ink stain sit longer than it should, then you are in for a difficult carpet cleaning session. Remember, the best moment for your carpet cleaning magic to work on an ink stain is immediately it occurs.

Secondly, you would want to start by getting a neat cloth, preferably cotton-made. You will throw some alcohol on this piece of cloth. The best type of alcohol to address this situation would be Isopropyl. After the alcohol has soaked in, use the said cloth to blot out the stain from the affected area. The ink will slowly move from the carpet to the cloth. This step should be repeated several times. You must repeat this process until there is no longer any ink on the alcohol-soaked-cloth when rubbed on the affected area.

However, if this process does not completely get rid of the ink, get some carpet cleaning product from the nearest store and use it on the stain. After step one, the stain will be greatly reduced and this second step should help even more. As with the alcohol, apply the product on a clean cloth and blot the affected area. After two to four times of blotting, the stain should no longer be visible.

Indeed, remember to rinse the area you have just treated with clean water so that no residue should accumulate on the carpet.

To conclude, it is very important to have a few carpet cleaning tips under your sleeves so that your carpet cleaning endeavors would yield much.

How Does Carpet Fiber Protection Work?

Win/win Benefit of stain guard protection

This process will help people to protect their carpets. It is part of a pro-active Carpet maintenance. The main reason people replace carpets is because of wear patterns and stains.

Carpet fibers such as olefin, polyester and smartstrand are more effective than nylon at not absorbing stains, however they are not as durable as nylon and get replace because they wear out faster. To combine the durability and cleanability of nylon with the stain resisting ability of these other fibers, flourochemical stain protection can be used.

How does it work?
We use a technology flourochemical protectant that actually really does work well. It creates a negative ionic charge in the carpets which repels liquids and soils. Kind of like magnets that push away from each other. They create more surface tension on the carpet fibers so that spills bead up on them better. There is a difference between stain resistant carpets and applying fiber protection. Stain resistant carpet have a dye blocker injected into the fibers in the dyeing process while fiber protection is applied to carpet fibers after the dyeing process.

Does this mean that your carpets won't stain or get dirty?

No it means it gives you time to remove the spill or soil before it penetrates into the carpet fibers.

How long does it last?
It depends on the amount and type of traffic on the carpets. For best results Heavy traffic areas should have it reapplied every year and light traffic areas every other year. Areas that are likely to have a lot of spills or where the dogs like to lay down are good spots to apply protection.

Applying fiber protection to your upholstery is also a good idea. On the arms where grubby hands rest of where the back of the head can leave oil from hair are places that should have fiber protection applied.

If your fibers are natural fibers such as cotton or wool then you need to use a solvent based protectant because leaving natural fibers wet too long can create browning problems.

Other cautions; Using high alkaline cleaning solutions with a ph of over 10 may remove the protectant from the carpets. If a high alkaline solutions has been used on the carpets, be sure to thoroughly rinse out the area using an acidic rinse. White vinegar diluted in water works fine. Then apply more protectant to the area. You can purchase protectant from your local carpet cleaning supply store.

Make your carpets look better and last longer with carpet fiber protection.

The Importance and Purpose of Mold Remediation

Mold remediation is the removal as well as cleanup of mold present in indoor environments. It is very important to tackle your mold problem head on before it starts to cause damage to your home and health.

Causes of Mold

Many building materials can sustain the growth of mold. It is mainly caused by the presence of moisture or water indoors and grows on organic materials. Organic materials consist of things that were once living. Most mold growth is found on wood floors or wooden studs. It can also be encouraged by a lack of drying of building materials like concrete. Leaky roofs, flooding, problems connected with plumbing, and building maintenance can result in the growth of mold indoors.

The first thing to do to solve mold problems indoors is to stop the source of the moisture within your home or office, followed by mold removal. Solutions for small instances of mold are the following:

Ventilation
Sunlight
Wall insulation
Dehumidifiers
Non-porous building materials
Household cleansers

If the mold growth is significantly high, it might be necessary to choose a professional mold remediation company in order to eliminate mold from every building material which has been compromised.

The aim of remediation is to clean or entirely remove all contaminated materials in such a way that it effectively checks the release of fungi as well as fungi-contaminated dust from spreading into unaffected areas.

Different Methods

Some ways to hinder mold growth are air conditioning, improved insulation, and also dry fog. Current technology allows mold remediation companies to pack a room with a kind of dry fog that exterminates mold and prevents its growth. This fog contains a chemical which is approved by the EPA and in no way damages or harms the health of animals or individuals. The idea is to attack the mold which is harmful to people and their pets, whatever it takes as long as it does not exacerbate the situation.

However, some companies use of improper methods of remediating by exposing it to high levels of heat, sunlight, UV light, ozone, dry air, as also by spraying fungicides. While such methods can make it non-viable, the mold, including any by-products might still produce harmful health effects and repercussions. The only correct tactic of remediation is to employ detergent solutions that eliminate the mold physically.

Other means of mold removal are:

Dry ice blasting: gets rid of mold on wood and cement surfaces.
Vacuum: removes accumulated water from carpets and floors.
Damp wipe: by scrubbing or wiping non-porous surfaces with water and detergent.
HVPA vacuum: Vacuum cleaners equipped with HVPA or High Efficiency Particulate Air filters are meant for the final cleanup of affected areas.

After remediation is achieved, all mold-affected furnishings as well as building materials should be put in closed containers or impervious bags and disposed of as conventional construction waste.

A Word of Caution

While engaged in mold removal, do not, on any account, breathe in either the mold or its spores, since it can be highly damaging to your health.

When Mold Invades Your Home

Mold can become a nightmare for a homeowner. It can take its toll on your home, health, and wallet. Black mold is particularly bad because unlike other kinds of mold, it can become deadly to humans and pets alike, when they are exposed for an extended period of time. Given below are some tips on mold abatement and a way to ensure it does not gain a foothold into your home.

Prevention is Better than the Cure

The old adage "prevention is better than cure" remains true as far as mold removal is concerned. So it is better to prevent this nuisance from forming in your house and doing you and your family untold harm. To accomplish mold remediation, it is always better to do certain simple chores at home. They are:

Drying up the puddles on your kitchen counters/bathroom.

Scrubbing the tiles and grout in your shower on a regular basis.

Although stagnant puddles do not usually give rise to mold, the water might ultimately seep into the surface, helping mold to flourish. In the same manner, do not leave the carpets at home wet for long periods of time, particularly when it remains humid outdoors.

Dampness, as wells as humidity, remains the primary cause of mold, making the rooms of your home a potential target. However, what makes mold abatement such an insurmountable problem?

For much of the time we are not aware of the fact that the mold has come home to stay until it is too late. Mold may not be something that you can see with your naked eye until it has grown to striking proportions. So as part of mold removal, it is a good thing to inspect areas like your attic and basement regularly and look for any signs of mold as well.

The Basement

Once the mold has advanced, particularly into your basement, it is extremely hard to undertake mold abatement procedures, for the simple reason that then it becomes dreadfully difficult to eliminate. Still it is possible for you to prevent such a thing from happening, by making sure that every drain under the floor is uncovered. You do not want any excess water from flowing in. You can do this by pointing or setting your water toys, if you have any, and garden sprinklers away from your house and turning off your garden hose as soon as you are done with them.

The Attic

Mold remediation can be particularly difficult as far as your attic is concerned as well. However, this can be remedied by fixing every leak in your roof, the moment you locate one. In the process of mold remediation, it is a wise thing to check all insulation, drywall, and old wood for any possible signs of mold. Also, you can use boric acid to clean small water spots.

In these ways, mold abatement, as well as prevention measures will turn your home into a cleaner and thus healthier haven. It is certainly better not to let mold adversely affect your home and health or even have a chance in doing so.

Pipes and Home Cleaning 101

In order for you to stop having to clean your drains so much, you need to be careful about what you put down there. Some people are putting grease, hair and coffee grounds into the pipes. Add soap scum to this and you have not only a messy pipe system but a clogged one as well. Cooking grease should be put into a metal or plastic container and then disposed of in the trash can. Some communities also have special instructions regarding how to dispose of oil properly. Coffee grounds can either be thrown in the trash or used as mulch for your garden. You can purchase a drain holder that covers the drain and eliminate the problem of hair and soap scum blockages.

You should clean the pipes on a regular basis. This will help keep them running normally and will stop any nasty odors from developing. One home cleaning tip is to include running the hot water after each time you use the sink. Hot water will loosen up any clogs and make the pipes run smoothly. You can also use baking soda in the drain and then run some hot water after pouring it in the pipes to get rid of any offending odors. Another great method to clean your pipes is to empty a cup of vinegar down the drain and allow it to set for half an hour. Then turn on the hot water. Vinegar contains naturally occurring acid which helps to loosen up any sludge in your pipes.

If you find that your pipes are getting clogged on a regular basis, there are some things you can do to prevent this. In fact this little home cleaning trick works on pipes, sinks and showers. Take a half a cup of baking soda, a half a cup of salt, a half a cup of vinegar and 2 quarts of boiling water. Just before turning in for the night, pour the solution of salt and baking soda down the drain. Then add the vinegar and let it sit for about a minute. Then add the 2 quarts of boiling water. If your sink has a garbage disposal, there is another trick that you can try. Take an ice cube tray and fill it half vinegar and half water. You need to have the water because vinegar by itself will not freeze. Be sure to let everyone in the household know that certain trays have vinegar in them. Once the trays of vinegar ice are frozen, turn on your garbage disposal and add the ice cubes. Vinegar is an acid which is great for cleaning garbage disposal as well as the pipes. If you absolutely cannot stand the smell of vinegar, you can just freeze a regular tray of ice cubes, pour them down your garbage disposal and then add a lemon that is sliced up. You will be surprised that your disposal and your entire kitchen smells amazing.

You can try all these great home cleaning tricks to keep your drain clean and to prevent it from clogging. Just remember that there are some things that are not made to go down any pipes or drains.

Is Snow Shoveling Dangerous?

Snow shoveling used to be simple. Pick up a shovel and get to work clearing that driveway. These days it's much more complicated. Many new models have come to the market for manually clearing snow because of health risks. Several studies have been done recently that show a strong correlation between increased risk for heart attack and shoveling snow. For sources on this, simply search the web, where plenty of studies are outlined on credible websites such as ScienceDaily. Besides heart attacks, many other injuries are correlated, such as strokes, broken bones, injured neck and back, pulled muscles and even strained ligaments.

What's the science behind these studies? I mean really, how could snow shoveling lead to heart attacks? Well, it is usually done in bitter temperatures, and for those who are not exposed to strenuous workouts on a regular basis, shoveling can be a real shock to the heart, just like any other workout that you are unaccustomed to. Undergoing a strenuous workout with the addition of cold temperatures is what leads to increased strokes and heart attacks.
What does this mean for you? If you are older, it can be extremely dangerous and it is highly advised to find an alternative to conventional snow shoveling. There are a few easy alternatives to doing it yourself. Either have a younger friend or relative do it for you, or if that is unavailable, buy a snow shovel that will help lead to an easier, less exhausting experience. Buying smaller snow shovels and working at a slower pace is recommended, since that will lead less exhaustion than shoveling huge amounts of snow per shovel.

Since recent studies, there is a very important new shovel on the market named the "wovel." The wovel has been tested to be the safest snow shovel on the market because of its unique design. It is named the "wovel" because of the wheel the shovel rests on. It acts as a wheel barrow of some sorts, and allows people to move snow with much greater ease and efficiency. There are many other safety benefits to the wovel because of its design, and will overall reduce stress on your body.

Shoveling snow in the winter is a daunting task sometimes. We all know that aching feeling of looking at a menacing amount of snow to be cleared in your driveway. It's easy to grab the shovel and overexert yourself out in the cold, and I warn you against that. The last thing you want is suffering a major injury while spending some time outdoors in the snow. Once again, snow shoveling accidents are much more common than the average person would imagine, so take the necessary precautions by either buying a snow shovel that fits your needs or going at a slow and steady pace.

Condense the Mess in the Laundry Room With These Tips

There is nothing more discouraging than a messy laundry room. Condensing the mess is a great step to making it a more pleasant task.

In the first place, laundry is a thankless task. After just one wearing, laundry is right back in the hamper waiting to be washed all over again. If you can make the laundry environment just a bit more appealing, you will find it less of chore. The secret is bringing some order to the laundry room.

Make more room

The first trick is to make more room in the laundry room. This means you need to make better use of the unused spaces. For example, most laundry rooms can make use of the space between the washer and the dryer. With as little as 8 inches, you can add a set of narrow wicker drawers that fit between the washer and dryer. These four graduated drawers hold fabric softener sheets, stain sticks and even your eye glasses so you can read the tags on clothing. The plastic front resembles hand-woven wicker. It measures 36 inches high, 19 inches deep and 8 inches wide.

With just about the same amount of space, you can add a roll-out laundry caddy that stores some taller items, like laundry detergent, fabric softener and the iron. The sturdy melamine caddy has three open shelves with raised side rails to keep the products in place. The caddy is set on dual track casters, so it easily rolls out and goes back in between the dryer and washer. It measures 31 inches high, 25 inches deep and 8 3/8 inches wide. Some assembly is required.

Hanging tricks

Sometimes the best way to get rid of clutter is to go up. The fold down overdoor laundry hanger gives you a closet where there is not one. It creates a place to hang clothing when it comes out of the dryer or if the laundry instructions recommend line drying. It is made with a locking hinge that supports 10 hangers. When it's not in use, simply fold it down and way. There is felt padding on the inside of the bracket so it won't scratch the surface and it fits over most doors.

A simple way to air dry your laundry is with a set of five hanging clips. Made to fit over a towel rod or wire shelving, these drip dry hanging clothespins let you air dry anything from delicates to towels to socks. Their no-slip teeth keep your clothes hung up and off the floor.

Laundry carts

If you have ever seen the laundry carts in a Laundromat and thought they would be useful at home, you are in luck. Laundry carts are available in everything from commercial size to personal butler size.

The laundry butler is compact enough to fit in the smallest laundry rooms. The chromed steel frame has 3-inch industrial wheels with double locks and a large basket to hold your laundry. You can hang wet or dry garments on the valet bar that rises above the basket. There is a bottom shelf underneath the basket that can store laundry soap and other supplies. It measures 67½ inches high, 24½ inches wide and more than 20 inches deep.

If you are looking for something with more storage space, consider the classic antique bronze laundry center with its three heavy duty, removable canvas laundry bags. It also comes with two bags - one for lingerie and one for sweaters. Hanging above the three laundry bags is a crossbar where you can hang the clothing you just ironed. There is also a high shelf for storing clean clothes or laundry accessories. The laundry center will roll across your home on smooth rolling casters with two locking wheels. The bronze finish on the steel frame is attractive enough you won't want to rush to put it away. It measures 72 inches high, 30 inches wide and 18 inches deep.

Extra space

If counter space is at a premium in your laundry room, then you probably could use some extra space where you can fold your laundry. This steel, rolling laundry station offers extra space and more. The cart's two shelves hold detergent, fabric softener, folded clothing and more. There is a slide-out wire basket that can hold small items, like stain sticks, clothes pins and scissors to clip loose threads. When closed, the melamine doors on top can be used to fold laundry. They open to reveal a removable canvas bag. All this rolls along on casters and measures 31 inches high, 26¼ inches wide and 18 inches deep.

Another easy way to increase space is with a wire shelf that mounts over the top of a washer or dryer. Measuring 26½ inches long and 10 inches wide, the vinyl coated shelf will easily hold detergent bottles and boxes.

Make laundry less of a chore by condensing the mess so you can focus on getting the wash done and getting back to your family.

How to Choose Hospitality Supplies for a Commercial Kitchen

When setting up a new kitchen from the ground up, the amount of shopping around, price comparisons and essentials buying can be completely overwhelming. How can you know what the right hospitality supplies are for your needs, and how do you choose which models or brands offer the best value? The answer to choosing quality and value obviously depends on the specific product you are searching for at the moment, but here we have collected a brief guide to help you pick the essential hospitality supplies for the commercial kitchen.

When stocking your kitchen you might turn to one of various catalogues and other resources available to help the restaurateur. These catalogues can be helpful but often have the motive of selling as many hospitality supplies as possible to the inexperienced chef or manager. So instead of relying completely on a salesperson's advice, you should meet with all the key players in the kitchen and plan ahead to determine which hospitality supplies are really necessary and warrant spending more of the budget on.

It is important to choose high quality, long lasting hospitality supplies in all areas of the kitchen, although this can be a significant problem if money is short at the beginning of your business endeavours. If you decide to restrict spending on key hospitality supplies such as pots and pans, utensils, kitchen knives and storage facilities you will only find yourself incurring escalated costs later on as more time is spent cleaning and maintaining the inefficient and faulty equipment.

As well as the cooking equipment essential to the efficient operation of your kitchen, there are other products to consider, such as chefs and wait staff uniforms, table settings and interior decorations. These additional items are vital to enticing customers into your restaurant and can make the difference between a banal and uninteresting meal and an experience your diners will rave about to their friends. Choosing these supplies requires a little more creativity and involves designing an entire image for your business and choosing products to fit and complement your style.

As they say, the devil is in the details, and it is important to choose each of your hospitality supplies very carefully to engineer the perfect experience for your customers. By thinking of small ways to improve your service you can instantly get ahead of the competition and build up a loyal following of diners. You could, for instance, purchase hospitality supplies such as a water filter and cooler for delicious complimentary water, delicate and beautiful crockery, thick linen napkins and heavy cutlery to build an air of elegance in your restaurant.
